AHA chair Murray Fierheller sent the following letter to Premier Notley and other elected officials today to commend the vision of the proposed Bighorn Provincial Park.

Murray Fierheller, chair of the Alberta Hiking Association (AHA) made the following comments in response to the announcement of the proposed protection of the Bighorn Country as a series of Provincial Parks, Provincial Recreation Zones and Public Land Use Zones.

Alberta Environment and Parks has online surveys available regarding plans for the North Saskatchewan Region and the Livingstone-Porcupine Hills. Please provide comments to the government on your wishes for these areas.

The Mountaineer, a community newspaper in Rocky Mountain House, published a story in March 2018 that featured the Alberta Hiking Association's position on a wildland park in the Bighorn Area.

The Alberta Hiking Association wrote to the Minister of Environment and Parks, urging protection for the Bighorn Backcountry as a wildland Park. The Honourable Richard Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism responded.

Following the announcement of the proposed new bike and walking trail along the Icefields Parkway, Parks Canada will begin consulting with Indigenous Peoples, partners, stakeholders and the public on the project, in early 2017.
