Heavy rainfall, raging floods and mudslides have inflicted severe damage in Banff National Park, Kananaskis Country, Icefields Parkway, Bow Valley Provincial Park and the Crowsnest Pass. In some cases, we know that bridges and roads have been swept away; however, a full assessment of the damage will not be known for some time. For now, the national parks have closed all backcountry trails.

Before you make plans for your next hiking expedition, check with Banff National Park at : www.pc.gc.ca/apps/tcond/cond_e.asp?opark=100092.

Jasper National Park is not reporting any damage or trail closures.

Provincial parks, Kananaskis Country and Bow Valley Provincial Park, report similar conditions. While not closing trails, Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation has issued a cautionary advisory for any who risk the backcountry.
