Rick Collier, 71-years of age, died last week while climbing Mount Geikie in Mount Robson Provincial Park in eastern British Columbia. A slab of rock gave way, causing Collier and two others to fall. Collier died shortly afterwards, while his climbing companions suffered injuries.
Collier was an avid mountaineer who had climbed all 586 peaks in the southern Canadian Rockies and was the second person ever to climb all of Canada’s peaks over 11,000 feet asl. Collier was known in the Calgary region in particular for his advocacy of many environmental issues. His dedication to the well-being of the environment was as outstanding as his climbing career.
Rick was the founder of the Old Goats Climbing Club, a member organization of the AHA.
He will truly be missed.
