The joint-federal and provincial review panel has rejected the Grassy Mountain Coal Project, citing significant negative impacts to water quality, fish, the natural landscape and the project’s questionable economic benefits. You can read the joint panel’s press release here.
The Alberta Hiking Association (AHA) board wishes to express our deepest thanks and appreciation to Alistair and Gail Des Moulins of the Crowsnest Pass who have donated so much time and effort on behalf of the Alberta hiking community in opposing the Grassy Mountain Coal Project. This is a refreshing example of how concerned citizens can affect land use management in Alberta.
The AHA recently sent a letter to the Coal Policy Committee outlining our view that no further coal activity should be permitted in Alberta’s Eastern Slopes.
