Nordiq Alberta is pleased to announce that through the efforts of cross-country skiers, local business owners, and a small working group we have successfully brought ski trail grooming back to Kananaskis Country! Through the implementation of a voluntary paid parking pass, Nordiq Alberta will raise funds to cover costs for grooming following the funding cuts earlier this year.

To mark the launch of the program, Nordiq Alberta signed a cooperating agreement with the Hon. Jason Nixon, Minister of Environment and Parks, at an event in Kananaskis today.

As of today, the pilot program will support grooming on popular ski trails in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, Mount Shark, Kananaskis Village, and Sandy McNabb Recreation Area. Information about buying passes, volunteering, and frequently asked questions can be found on our newly launched website (www.kananaskisgrooming.ca).

We are extremely grateful to the entire ski community for your ongoing support, patience and trust as we worked towards a solution.

“Kananaskis is a world-class cross-country skiing destination. As a local business, we are proud to be working with Nordiq Alberta and Alberta Environment and Parks, and so grateful for their hard work and co-operation to restore grooming on these incredible trails. This pilot program will help ensure adventure-seekers, families, aspiring athletes, and first-time skiers all have the chance to get outside and enjoy Kananaskis this winter.” — Michelle Faerden, Owner, Kananaskis Outfitters
