$12.5M needed to complete the Trans Canada Trail through Alberta

2015-09-17

Alberta has the longest section of the Trans Canada Trail (TCT) in the country with one branch going through the Peace Country to B.C., another going east through Lloydminster, and a third branch, the High Rockies Trail, traversing Banff National Park. Only 59 percent of Alberta’s trail is complete, however, and although large sections of the trail are actually water routes, accessible only by canoe, $10M more is needed to complete the Alberta section of the trail in time for Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017.

The CEO of the Trans Canada Trail Association, Deborah Apps, met recently with prominent Edmontonians urging the completion of the project. Alberta Culture Minister Dave Eggen, who attended the meeting, promised a provincial government contribution to the project.
